SHOP LOCAL – A Campaign by the Newfoundland and Labrador Federation of Labour

SHOP LOCAL
The Newfoundland and Labrador Federation of Labour (NLFL) is launching a “SHOP LOCAL” campaign.
We encourage our members to:
- SHOP at local establishments
- BUY locally-made products
- EAT at local restaurants, and
- SUPPORT our local economy.
BENEFITS OF SUPPORTING LOCAL
With the one-two punch of Snowmageddon and COVID-19, independent businesses in Newfoundland and Labrador are in need of our support. When you spend money locally, it stays in our economy, providing income to local workers. It gets reinvested into our schools, roads, and hospitals through taxation. It helps our communities grow.
WHY SHOP LOCAL?
You work hard for your money. It has power. You get to choose where that power goes when you spend it. Make your choice count!
When you shop, consider: Does this business support worker-friendly policies? Do they pay fair wages and benefits? Are they unionized? Will my money stay in the provincial economy? Consider who you are supporting with your money.
Small, independent businesses are run by your neighbours. They employ your friends. They support your community.
Support them back.
Shop Local.
How Can I Support Local?
- Look for products “Made in Newfoundland”
- Try to find the product your want at a local retailer instead of ordering online
- Support local farmers and farmers markets
- Call and pickup orders from restaurants instead of ordering via delivery apps
- Buy a gift for a loved one from a local artist
- Buy a gift card or gift certificate to use at a later date
