Living Wage Focus Groups

November 2, 2023

Living wage rates are being calculated for the province of Newfoundland and Labrador. Our calculations are based on the Canadian Living Wage Framework, which will help us determine the dollar amount workers need to be paid to maintain a decent, minimal standard of living.

As part of that research, hearing from people for whom the living wage would make a difference is essential.  We are seeking research participants to join focus groups. Contributors will have the opportunity to meet others who work at or around the minimum wage and to talk about how their lives might change if they were paid a living wage. The results of the focus group will be incorporated into our report. No participants will be identified in the final publication.

The focus group is a maximum 1.5-hour commitment (not including travel time). All participants will be provided with a $50 gift card for their time and contribution. The focus group sessions are scheduled as follows:

  • Placentia, Wednesday, November 15 from 1 to 2:30 pm
  • Mount Pearl, Wednesday, November 15 from 7 to 8:30 pm
  • Labrador City/Wabush, Tuesday, November 21 from 7 to 8:30 pm
  • Corner Brook, Thursday, November 23 from 7 to 8:30 pm
  • Pasadena, Friday, November 24 from 1 to 2:30 pm
