On October 14th, Workplace NL announced average assessment rates for employers, to cover workplace injuries, are to be reduced by $0.25 per $100 of assessable payroll.  According to Workplace NL, this lower assessment rate is due to record low injury rates. Mary Shortall, President of NLFL, expressed extreme disappointment in the announcement, believing that the decision will result in a loss of millions of dollars of money that could be better spent on improving workplace safety and serving the 13,000 injured workers who are forced to rely on workers compensation for their day-to-day living.  you can read the press release here.
